謝菲爾德哈萊姆大學創建於1843年，前身為謝菲爾德設計學院，1992年升級為大學。謝菲爾德哈萊姆大學位於英格蘭第四大城市謝菲爾德市，距離倫敦170英裏。從建校伊始，謝菲爾德哈萊姆大學就和工業產業界緊密相連。經過二十世紀兩次院校合並和調整，目前已發展為全英第六大的綜合性大學.。
